More than a year after the devastating Nelson floods, the government has announced $12 million recovery package that will include buyouts for the worst affected homes.
Similar to the deal for Cyclone Gabrielle affected properties, the government says it will contribute $6 million towards property buyouts, with the council asked to meet the other half of the costs.
For some, it's been a long time coming.
