Napier to Hastings rail connection restored after cyclone

The rail connection between Napier and Hastings has been restored after it was badly damaged seven months ago in Cyclone Gabrielle. A new temporary rail bridge will allow freight to travel to and from the Napier port for the first time since the cyclone. The work also included rebuilding two-metre-high embankments, replacing 140 metres of rail and laying 3000 cubic metres rock foundations under the tracks.
