A new aerospace centre in Canterbury is expected to lift the local economy by up to a billion dollars and secure the local sector's talent in New Zealand.
The Tawhaki National Aerospace Centre at Kaitorete Spit in Banks Peninsula officially opened today, following a five and a half million dollar boost from the government.
Project leaders say it clears a path for both local and international companies within the sector to take flight and gain access to space.
Reporter Adam Burns was at the opening.
