A free pass for big industry to bulldoze Aotearoa's precious natural environment.
That's the Green Party's verdict on legislation that would give Government Ministers the power to push through consents for major infrastructure projects, while at the time limiting people's rights to appeal.
The Fast Track Approvals Bill, which is also being fast tracked, allows the Ministers of transport, Infrastructure and Regional Developments to choose projects for speedy approvals.
An expert panel will review their choices and apply any conditions before referring it back to the trio for sign off.
However, the Ministers can veto restrictions.
A list projects considered worthy of fast track consents will also be enshrined in the legislation.
