Chilean Accident Investigation Authority has confirmed it is investigating the LA-TAM flight which suddenly lost altitude on a flight from Sydney to Auckland, which occurred whilst flying over international waters.
It has asked New Zealand's Transport Accident Investigation Commission for assistance.
50 passengers were treated by paramedics when the flight landed in Auckland, and some were taken to hospital.
