Govt announces services for people in long term emergency housing
The government has launched a pilot programme aimed at getting single or childless long term emergency housing tenants out of the likes of motels and into permanent homes. The two year trial will focus on people who've been in emergency housing for 12 months or more, and use targeted wrap around services, like counselling, budgeting, healthcare and driver licence services. The government has an overall goal of reducing the number of people living in emergency housing by 75 percent by 2030. The pilot, that is part of its social investment approach, will support up to 100 people and will be run by Wellington City Mission and Waikato's Emerge Aotearoa. Associate Minister of Housing Tama Potaka spoke to Lisa Owen.
