Each week we join a creative correspondent from a different part of Aotearoa New Zealand. This week it’s Baz Squire of Whangārei’s Hangar Gallery.
Whangārei has arguably had more cultural infrastructure introduced in recent years than any other New Zealand city. As well as the new Hundertwasser Centre and Wairau Māori Art Gallery, there is an impressive sculpture trail around the Town Basin and the opening of the Hiahiaua Māori Cultural Centre.
They join dynamic spaces like contemporary arts venue/ community centre Oneonesix and the Quarry Arts Centre.
