Freshwater ecologist, environmental science researcher and activist Dr Mike Joy is a well known outspoken voice in the need for our society to make radical changes to deal with our major environmental crises.

He is one of Aotearoa’s foremost public scientists, but also a supporter of artists and art projects as a way of raising awareness to enable change.

Joy’s research currently includes looking at behavioural change strategy. How can we change our behaviour to match the severity of the state of our environment? Joy believes an interdisciplinary response is needed, with the arts playing a role alongside the marketing, media and entertainment industries - sectors that have played themselves a key role in resource acquisition and the generation of waste.

Mike Joy joins Mark Amery on Culture 101 to share some of his cultural favourites.
