After living abroad for 35 years Oriwa Morgan Ward returned to Aotearoa in 2013.
With a vision to reclaim her cultural heritage, Oriwa is now based in the South Waikato town of Putāruru where she works as a full-time artist, sharing her knowledge to inspire others.
Through her Toi Oriwa Creative workshops, she aims to encourage the understanding of Māori art, promote Te Reo Māori and support learning through creative activity.
She holds a Bachelor in Māori Contemporary Art and a Diploma in Te Reo Māori, and has a particular interest in the art of Karetao, traditional Māori puppets.
Oriwa joins Culture 101 for our weekly Regional Wrap.
