Horse racing protection group wants jumps racing banned

From First Up, 5:54 am on 7 August 2019

There are calls for sweeping changes to the horse-racing industry after two horses died in a single day at a Rotorua meet. Racehorses 'Assign' and 'Not Usual Delight' were euthanised after taking part in different races at Taumarunui Racing Club at the end of July - bringing the total number of deaths on the track this year to ten. Now the Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses want to see jumps-racing banned and retirement plans implemented for the horses. Spokesperson Frances Baker told Lydia Batham what happened that day and what changes they'd like to see.
