What's involved in pastoral care for students at university
The stepfather of a Christchurch University student, whose body lay undiscovered for weeks, says changes need to be made to keep students safe. Anthony Holland told Checkpoint he last spoke to his son Mason Pendrous on July 19th. When he became concerned about Mason a month later, he emailed the university but got no response. It wasn't until he contacted Mason's friend with heightened concerns four weeks later, that another friend climbed on the roof of the Sonoda building and discovered the 19-year-old's body. Mr Holland told Lisa Owen last night that Campus Living Villages continued to pursue him to pay for his son's accommodation whilst his son was probably dead in his room. He said the pastoral care he thought would be provided wasn't and both he and Mason had been let down. So what does pastoral care involve at a university? Our producer Lydia Batham spoke to the president of the Victoria University of Wellington Students' Association Tamatha Paul.
