Protestors demand ODT cartoonist removed over racist drawing
Half-baked. That's how cartoonist Garrick Tremain's apology is being labelled. It came just hours after he refused to say sorry for a cartoon which made light of Samoa's measles crisis, when speaking to First Up's Katie Doyle. About 40 people gathered outside the Otago Daily Times' office yesterday to vent their anger at Mr Tremain and the newspaper The paper's editor, Barry Stewart, addressed protestors - telling them they won't publish Mr Tremain's work while a review into his role at the company is underway. Mr Stewart says that review process will be quick. Sina Brown-Davis, told our Otago-Southland reporter, Timothy Brown, she was motivated to organise the protest after being shocked by the cartoon.
