Maungatapere farm developes unique raspberries
A kiwi family's berry farm in Maungatapere is generating a lot of interest around the country due to a unique raspberry they've developed called Solberries. It's a super sweet golden raspberrry that according to some, tastes like summer. Patrick Malley, his wife Rebecca and parents Dermot and Lyndsay run Maungatapere Berries near Whangarei and are opening their gates this Sunday to the public in hopes to change peoples' perceptions to horticulture. They're among 51 farms around New Zealand opening their gates this Sunday in the first ever Open Farms event which aims to reconnect urban kiwis with where their food comes from. Patrick shared with me the story behind his family's berry business.
