Two more Covid cases, bad news for tourism operators

From First Up, 5:50 am on 28 January 2021

The Ministry of Health confirmed late last night that there are two more cases of Covid-19 in the community. The two cases completed managed isolation at the same time as the weekend's Northland case. The ministry says it's yet to confirm whether they're recent or historic infections and further urgent testing was being carried out last night. The people are asymptomatic and have previously returned two negative tests. Both are now self-isolating at home. Health officials are tracking their movements since they left isolation at Auckland's Pullman Hotel to see whether they came into close contact with anyone. It comes after Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins warned it could be a year before New Zealand is fully vaccinated for Covid-19. Our reporter Ella Stewart hit the streets of Auckland's Onehunga to get people's reactions to the prospect of another 12 months with closed borders. This comes as seriously bad news for tourism operators, many of whom have already been devastated by the pandemic. Nathan Rarere spoke with Jim Boult, the mayor of New Zealand's adventure tourism capital, Queenstown.
