Fledging Cooks petrel chicks distracted by lights in Auckland

From First Up, 5:40 am on 16 April 2021

Over the past few days Cooks Petrel chicks have been turning up in gardens and roads across Auckland, these little birds are fledging at the moment and because of the bright lights of the city and stormy weather they have found themselves grounded, When they are young they need height and lift to take off again so once they are down they are in danger. Ellie Jay spoke with Lynn Miller, the General Manager of New Zealand bird rescue who explained why they've been turning up.
