The small communities of Te Araroa and Wharekahika in Te Tairawhiti are now almost fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The rollout in these isolated areas is ahead of the average achieved by the rest of the country.
This is because the program there optmised the amount of people that could be vaccinated, and reduced the risk of wasting vaccines.
For locals in Wharekahika, also known as Hicks Bay, a day of vaccinations was a time for katakata & kai.
Our reporter Tom Kitchin was there and spoke to some locals.
