Youth depression rates doubles during pandemic

From First Up, 5:35 am on 11 August 2021

New findings show that rates of depression and anxiety amongst youth has doubled during the pandemic. Researchers looked at 29 studies of more than 80-thousand youth globally, and concluded that young people are struggling with 'isolation', 'disruption to routine' and a 'lack of social network'. They say these numbers are double the pre-pandemic estimates and that young women are disproportionately affected. Our reporter Ella Stewart spoke with senior author Sheri Madigan who said some young people are struggling as they can't access their usual support services.
