Architect suggests quarantine pods on Quail Is, Lyttelton
A renowned architect has come up with a plan to turn a former leper colony into a scenic managed isolation facility. Michael O'Sullivan has designed a prefabricated pod that he reckons would be a big improvement on the hotels returning Kiwis currently have to isolate in for 14 days. The pods would be helicoptered to Quail Island in Lyttelton Harbour, where people suffering leprosy were sent between 1906 and 1925. Mr O'Sullivan told our producer Matthew Theunissen how it could be re-purposed as a Covid managed isolation island.
