Poliomyelitis virtually eradicated from globe due to vaccine
Iconic city landmarks around New Zealand will be lit purple this Sunday to mark World Polio Day, and to remember the more than 800 New Zealanders who died from the Poliomyelitis virus during the pandemics in the early part of the 20th century. Polio survivors are now having to cope with long term effects known as Post-Polio Syndrome. To remind us all about the devastation of polio, Nathan Rarere asked Polio NZ Board member Sue Griffin about her experience.
