AK bakery $50K down after using lead contaminated sugar
An Auckland Bakery says it is up to fifty-thousand dollars out of pocket and not covered by insurance after Chelsea Sugar recalled three brands of brown sugar last week. The recall was issued after routine testing found low level lead contamination, and affects Chelsea, Pams, and Woolworths-branded raw and brown sugar products sold since October. The Ministry for Primary Industries said the risk was low. Owner of Moustache Milk and Cookie bar, Deanna Yang, told our reporter Ella Stewart she had to close stores over the weekend to throw out and remake over 30-thousand dollars worth of cookies.
