Science trumps religion over "bullshit" information
As anti-vaccine mandate protesters descended on Parliament this week we came across a press release headlined "Pseudo-Profound BS". It described a major international study that's just been published in the journal 'Nature' looking at why people believe information even if it's clearly rubbish It used something called a "New Age BS Generator", which combines fashionable buzzwords into meaningless statements that sound profound, to see how credible they seem when stated by a scientist compared with a religious guru. Nathan Rarere spoke to one of the authors, Joseph Bulbulia, who is a Professor of Psychology and director of the Centre for Applied Research at Victoria University of Wellington.
