RATs being used as primary test in AK as Omicron expands

From First Up, 5:30 am on 24 February 2022

Rapid Antigen tests will now be used as the primary test around Auckland to help meet demand as the Omicron outbreak grows. The move, which is part of the government's planned testing strategy, has also has seen RATs being rolled out in Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and Southern alongside PCR tests. Previously those who had return a positive RAT test needed to have a follow up PCR test, however that is no longer required. To learn more about Rapid antigen tests our reporter Ella Stewart spoke with Dr Anja Werno, who is the Chief of Pathology & Clinical Microbiologist & Virologist at Canterbury Health Labs. Dr Werno first explained how they actually work.
