The kiwifruit picking season is about to get underway but a lack of backpackers and seasonal workers has some growers worried their crops might end up on the compost heap. At the peak of the season, 3 million trays of the fruit need to be picked every day but the current state of the workforce means achieving that is going to be a huge ask. Our producer Ellie Jay made her way to the heart of kiwifruit country.
