Wild weather reactions: Mackenzie Country, Greymouth, Taranaki

From First Up, 5:18 am on 14 June 2022

The wild weather continues across the country this morning with some regions experiencing thousands of lightning strikes, hail, heavy wind and snow. We'll have an update on the situation from Metservice a little before 6 But first we'll head to Mackenzie Country, where the Lindis Pass has been buried under snow. Here's Jordan Langley, who runs the Mackenzie Country Weather NZ Facebook page. The West Coast has also been battered by rain and strong winds, with waves breaching sea walls and scattering drift wood onto coastal roads. Greymouth local Merv Ellis went out to assess the damage yesterday. In Taranaki, strong winds caused multiple flights to be delayed yesterday, while Port Taranaki was closed due to the weather. There were also widespread power outages yesterday. Here's Taranaki Emergency Management group manager Todd Velvin.
