Ideas for a thrifty Christmas
If we all listened to the Reserve Bank our Christmas shopping lists wouldn't consist of much more than hankies and socks this year, to help fight inflation. Announcing yet another interest rates hike recently, the bank's govenor Adrian Orr warned people to "think harder" about their spending habits or risk an even higher cost of living. Leonard Powell hit the streets of Auckland to find out if people are heeding the call. Well someone who certainly won't be contributing to inflation is Lyn Webster, who didn't need the Reserve Bank Governor to tell her to stop buying so much stuff. Lyn is a dairy farmer and sustainability advocate, who runs the website Pig Tits and Parsley Sauce...the expression her mum used when the kids asked what was for tea. Lyn doesn't go to supermarkets at all these days, and whatever she can't make herself she buys from bulk stores or online. Nathan Rarere asked her what Christmas will look like at her place this year.
