Tairua cleaning up after Cyclone Gabrielle

To Coromandel now where large parts of the Peninsula remain cut off and without power due to cyclone Gabrielle. A huge slip during last month's floods meant State Highway 25A between Kopu and Tairua was already closed. And with contractors flat-tack clearing the huge amount of debris now littering the roads, locals are mucking in with shovels and chainsaws to try and get things open. Our own Leonard Powell is among those isolated in Tairua on the Coromandel's east coast.
