Nicola Willis pays tribute to Gerogina Beyer

Former Carterton Mayor and MP for Wairarapa Georgina Beyer died yesterday after a longer illness. Beyer (Te Ati Awa, Ngati Mutunga, Ngati Raukawa, and Ngati Porou) was the world's first openly transgender mayor and MP. Her passing has seen an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from politcians on all sides of the house, and of course from the Rainbow community who she served with such passion. Among those saddened by her death was the deputy leader of the National Party Nicola Willis, who got to know Ms Beyer quite well during their time together in Parliament.
