Jono Ridler to swim from Great Barrier Is to Devonport

From First Up, 5:34 am on 2 May 2023

33-year-old Aucklander Jono Ridler will this morning attempt a New Zealand record swim from Aotea Great Barrier Island to Narrow Neck Beach in Tamaki Makaurau's Devonport ... non stop. Jono's 100km open water swim, expected to take over 30 hours, is driven by a personal desire to inspire urgent action to protect and restore the health of the Hauraki Gulf. He first had the idea in 2019 when he swam across the Cook Strait, and has been building up to it ever since. Our reporter Leonard Powell spoke with Jono on the eve of his epic swim.
