New Zealand has its own homegrown Covid-19 sub-variant

As the covid19 pandemic stretches on, virologists have come up with a whole raft of names for variants and sub variants. Many have become household names. Remember the days of Delta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma? Before Omicron became the dominant form of the Virus. Now it seems that Aotearoa has created one of it's own - a homegrown sub-variant Scientists at the ESR say it's been responsible for a third of hospital Covid samples in recent weeks. It hasn't got a fancy title - in fact - it's all letters and numbers as Otago University evolutionary biologist and virologist Dr Gemma Geoghegan explains.
