The Kiwi bird is sacred to New Zealanders. So it goes without saying that most people in our team couldn't bring themseleves to watch a video from Zoo Miami where a Kiwi named Paora was shown off under bright lights and handled by guests. The namesake of the kiwi, iwi leader Paora Haitana was at the handover in 2019 and told RNZ there was never meant to be an encounter. Nathan Rarere asked Zoo Miami Goodwill Ambassador and communications director Ron Magill how Paora came to be at the zoo.
