Skate park for Tairua being delayed for 30 years by NIMBYs

After decades of debate and conjecture, the coastal township of Tairua in the Coromandel looked set to get a new skatepark. But, the skatepark is now subject to a judicial review, lodged at the High Court by a group of townsfolk opposed to the skatepark site. The design plans were approved by Thames Coromandel District Council at its April meeting with construction set to begin at the end of July. Jacqui Gage-Brown is the chair of Tairua Sport & Recreation Trust, who raised community funds to support the Tairua skatepark. But she told Nathan Rarere it hasn't all been plain sailing.
