Report says Ports of Auckland automation project a failure
An international report on the Ports of Auckland has just been released, criticising its automation project as a failure "on every measure". Between 2018 and 2022, three port workers were killed in accidents on the job. During those years, Ports of Auckland was trialling the use of automated straddle carriers to move shipping containers. The report says that management were overly optimistic, and downplayed the risks of failure. The Maritime Union National Secretary Craig Harrison joins Nathan Rarere now.
