Emma Poole makes history as first woman Young Farmer champ
We head to the rolling green hills of Pirongia now, where dairy farmer Emma Poole has made history as the first ever female winner of the FMG Young Farmer of the Year award! Emma was in Timaru for the awards on Saturday. She's now taken the trophy home to Waikato. And there wasn't just a trophy - she also won the Young Farmers Cloak of Knowledge, and about 90,000 dollars. Competitors had to complete some tricky tasks like repairing farm machinery, as well as showing farming skills and general knowledge. Emma's 28, she's a trained vet, she and her husband Chris look after more than 700 cows, and they've also got a one year old son keeping them on their toes. She spoke with Nathan Rarere.
