In our wettest year, rates of mould in homes is growing
We're about halfway through the year, but data from NIWA shows some parts of Aotearoa have already had more than a year's worth of rain. It's been one of our wettest years, and according to an expert cleaner, one of the mouldiest. Yesterday RNZ reporter Robin Martin spoke to a New Plymouth woman living in a damp, mouldy rental which still passed the Healthy Homes inspection. Bronwyn McCown said she's moved her children out of their bedrooms because of the mould. Her property manager Jayden Lane said the problems showed Healthy Homes Standards may need improving. Lisa Simpson runs The Deep Cleaning Company, a small business which goes around doing end of tenancy exit cleaning, one off spring cleans and catch up cleans that can last up to 6 hours. She says she's never seen mould like this in previous years.
