Explainer: wildfires, dangers of hot dry summer
This week's fire on the Port Hills of Christchurch has shown us the dangers of a long hot summer. A restricted fire season is in place for Auckland and Northland, meaning it's an offence to light an open-air fire without a permit. Fire and Emergency NZ say dry weather and high winds are driving fire danger to extreme levels. Nathan Rarere asked RNZ Explainer editor Katie Kenny for the advice for the public from FENZ.
