A do-it-yourself, keep it simple ethos is in place, Flying Nun runs pretty much as a co-operative, with the bands who have sales success leaving money in the company to fund other recordings.
There are lessons to learn about contracts and initial international forays are undertaken.
As more bands are taken on by Flying Nun, the possibilities - and necessities - of financial survival become more apparent. Mortality bites. Bands from a wider geographical area are taken on, and the sound continues to diversify.
