The Government announced the sale of 49 percent of its shareholding in Meridian Energy this week. But only 62,000 individual investors bought shares, well short of the 113,000 who invested in Mighty River Power. As well, the shares sold for just $1.50 each, the very bottom of the Government's range of $1.50 - $1.80. Despite those setbacks, government ministers declared the sale a success. Political editor Brent Edwards looks at the sale and the politics surrounding it.
