With schools due to open their doors again shortly, it's often not just a matter of gearing up for the academic year.

Teachers and guidance counsellors will also be preparing to help teenagers dealing with the effects of drug abuse and binge drinking.

But how effective are the drug and alcohol programmes taught in schools?
