In an increasingly diverse and secular country, the provision of Christian education in state-run primary schools is under threat.

Its slow demise is applauded by parents wanting religion gone from junior classrooms.

But its decline disturbs those who say children cannot properly understand New Zealand history and culture without knowing something about Christianity.
