10:18 Ukrainian in Canterbury relieved after refugee visa announcement
More than 2 million people have fled the war in Ukraine with the United Nations Refugee Agency labelling it the fastest-growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II. Today the New Zealand Government announced we would be "offering shelter" for around 4000 people. The 2022 Special Ukraine Policy will be open for one year from today and enable Ukrainian-born New Zealand citizens and residents in New Zealand to sponsor a Ukrainian family member and their immediate family. Successful applicants will be granted a two-year work visa with work rights, and children will be able to attend school. Eugene Bidney left Ukraine when he was 16 years old and now lives in Canterbury but has family in Ukraine including his parents.

The home of the Royal New Zealand Navy has a new commanding officer. Julie Simpkins has taken charge of the Devonport Naval base in Auckland. Commander Simpkins is a 33-year Navy veteran and she joins Karyn to discuss her new role.

MP for Tauranga Simon Bridges, is calling it a day and will step down in a few weeks time. The former National party leader has been a member of the National Party for 30 years and he said it had been a great privilege and he loved every minute of being an MP. Joining Karyn to discuss the colourful career and resignation of Simon Bridges is author, satirist, public speaker and broadcaster David Slack.
10:45 Teenage ultra marathon swimmer completes 80km Lake Taupō cross
17 year-old Caitlin O'Reilly has become the third person to swim 80km across Lake Taupō and back. The Ultra Marathon swimmer is the first person to complete the crossing in 36 years. Caitlin completed the swim in 28 hours and two minutes, raising more than $7000 for the Waikato Westpac Rescue helicopter in the process.
