In Northland all eyes are on the tide which is expected to peak in about 2 hours from now .
The eastern coast of the region is flooded and there are fears the high tide could make it worse.
And 150mm of rain is expected to fall overnight

10:25 Clean up starts in Nelson
At the top of the South Island residents are in clean up mode with flooding, slips and washouts causing widespread damage across the Nelson and Tasman area.
In Nelson hundreds of people are still not sure when they'll be allowed back home.
Those who have been able to stay haven't escaped the damage either.
The ground floor of Nelson couple Barbara and Alistair Lawson's home has been flooded, forcing them and their 17 year old son upstairs to wait for the water to subside.
10:35 Firefighters to walk off the job
Thousands of firefighters across the country will walk off the job tomorrow protesting under-staffing and low wages.
Professional Fire Fighters' Union members will strike for one hour from midday and again next week until the parties come to a resolution

10:45 US Billionaire Defeated by local Environmentalists
He's one of the world's richest men but US billionaire investor Peter Thiel's (Tee-ill) plans to build a luxury lodge on the edge of Lake Wanaka have been thwarted by local environmentalists.
Thiel, a New Zealand citizen, applied for resource consent to build the 30 room lodge on land he owns in Damper Bay, about 10 minutes drive from the Wanaka township
His plans were opposed by environmental groups and some neighbours.
Three independent commissioners rejected his consent application due to significant adverse imp it would have on the sensitive environment.
Upper Clutha Environmental Society founder Julian Haworth was one of those opposed to the lodge
