Even before he's set foot on the plane the new New Zealand ambassador to Ireland, Trevor Mallard, has also been making the news in the Emerald Isle
Mallard (68) will take up the post in January next year replacing New Zealand's first ambassador to Ireland Brad Burgess
The Irish Times reported the appointment of the sometimes controversial MP had "flabbergasted" opposition MPs here.
So we thought we'd talk to someone on the ground in Ireland about what Trevor can expect when he takes up his post.

He is one of seven candidates vying for the top job and wants to make Whakatāne the sustainability capital of New Zealand

National pride will be on the line in Upper Hutt this weekend in a sport not many people will have heard of.
The inaugural trans-tasman medieval combat cup is being fought for on Saturday.
Fighters wield blunt steel weapons and wear heavy armour characteristic of medieval knights and soldiers.
Those brave enough to take part aim to knock down their opponent, using blows and various mixed-martial arts takedown techniques.

They're not a type of car that are often thought of as classics.
But Japanese built cars, particularly sport models from the eighties and nineties are fetching many times what they were once worth.
While secondhand Nissan Skylines and Toyota Supras have also been popular, some Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla models are also sought after.
So is it nostalgia, scarcity or a combination of both that's driving this?
