Many New Zealand marine species are under threat, none more so than Māui dolphins. There are only an estimated 63 adults left alive.
In November this year commercial fishing vessels operating near Māui dolphin habitats will need to carry on-board cameras as part of a government effort to protect the remaining population.
But will this provide a reprieve fro the dolphins, and if so why are only doing it now?
