An immigration lawyer says a group of Chinese nationals awaiting deportation are exploited workers who should be protected. The men were arrested for working illegally at building sites in Auckland. Nine are in Mt Eden jail, while another has been separated from the group. The lawyer for the nine, Matt Robson, says they are the victims of what he suspects is a human-trafficking ring and their detention is a breach of government policy.
