Hong Kong's top pro-democracy newspaper, Apple Daily, has closed its English language website operation. The chief executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, has defended what's widely seen as a sustained crackdown on freedom of speech in the city, saying the media shouldn't downplay acts that endanger the national security law imposed by China.
