Flights have been cancelled from Africa to an increasing number of countries as health officials scramble to work out how transmissible a new COVID-19 variant is. The B-1-1-5-29 variant is causing concern due to the high number of mutations and the possibility that current vaccines won't be as effective against it. The World Health Organisation will meet in Geneva later today to discuss the variant. Travel from South Africa and six neighbouring countries is now restricted with Singapore Britain and Israel so far refusing to allow flights across their borders.
