Straight off the plane from Japan to Aotearoa, DJ Sadar Bahar speaks to Kara Rickard and Mark Williams On The Air and shares music from his hometown of Chicago, a city which is synonymous with House Music.

The taste maker and crate digger has been collecting records for decades and is one of the greatest disco DJs around.

As a young man growing up in Chicago during the 70’s Bahar developed a ripe recipe- a broad musical pallet of Gospel, Funk, Disco, Jazz and Soul.

He tells Mark and Kara about how House Music evolved and what makes Chicago a hotbed for so many styles of music, noting that the glut of DJs creates constant competition for records. Another positive side effect, according to Sadar, is that with many people going digital, there are more opportunities to find golden records, he says "I'm seeing a lot of good pieces in there going cheap".

Sadar Bahar's Selections:

  • The Pink Family - Don't Give Your Life Away

  • Linx - You’re Lying

  • Revelation - Get Ready For This

  • Tasha Thomas - Hot Buttered Boogie

  • Exodus - Together Forever

  • James Brown - If You Don't Give a Doggone About It

  • Caroline Crawford - Coming On Strong

  • Rinder & Lewis - Anger

  • Ronnie Laws - Nuthin' 'Bout 'Nuthin

  • Patti Labelle - What Can I Do for You

Sadar Bahar plays Flamingo Pier on Saturday Feb 8th.
