Liana Poutu: Taranaki Mounga

The deed of settlement for Taranaki Mounga was signed on Friday, setting out redress for the confiscation of the sacred mountain. Co-governance of the 30,000 hectare park will, according to Taranaki iwi, ensure mana whenua rights and obligations for the mountain continue. 

One of the negotiators, Liana Poutu (Te Atiawa), talks about the history, how the settlement was reached, and how the new entities -- if ratified -- will function.

Henare Kingi: Iconic Māori broadcaster

Henare Kingi (Ngāpuhi) spent 25 years as an announcer at Wellington's Te Upoko o Te Ika, the first Māori radio station, from its founding days in the early 1980s. 

Over those decades, he became a broadcasting legend and icon which many in Māori broadcasting looked to, listened to, and aspired to. 

With two microphones and a tray load of pies, Māpuna went to misty Wainuiomata to interview the 88-year-old in his whare. Matua Henare talks about his life, te reo, and broadcast aspirations.
