Professor Poia Rewi leaves Te Mātāwai after five years as Tumu Whakarae

Te Mātāwai is the independent organisation established in 2016 with the mission to 'restore Māori as a nurturing first language within Māori homes and communities'.  Professor Poia Rewi was appointed Tumu Whakarae-Chief Executive in 2020 and will step down next month. Is Te Mātāwai on track to achieve its goals and will he return to academia where he produced influential works such as the book Whaikōrero: The World of Māori Oratory.
