Te Karere celebrates 40th Anniversary
On Monday 21 February, the Maori News programme 'Te Karere' celebrates its 40th Anniversary. What began in 1982 as a four minute news programme in Te Reo Maori fighting for air time and resource to bring the news in Te Reo Maori to Aotearoa, has now become an indelible part of New Zealand broadcasting, and the forerunner for Maori language content on air, and on line. In 1982, Derek Fox, alongside Whai Ngata, first took Te Karere to air, Julian Wilcox spoke to hin.
